No Bandage Solution

Bandages may work OK for scraped knees, but as Working America members around the country are telling their senators, the nation’s broken health care system needs serious and comprehensive reform—not a “Bandage Solution.”

Working America members rallied in front of Sen. Norm Coleman's office in St. Paul.In Minnesota, our members marched to Sen. Norm Coleman's office in St. Paul—a sea of red T-shirts and Working America flags. At a press conference outside the office, our members delivered a long roll of “No Bandage Solution” petitions strung together by colorful bandages and signed by more than 23,000 Minnesotans.

At the press conference, David Wehde, Working America’s Minnesota state director, said:

Working America is talking to people in neighborhoods every day about health care and other issues that concern working families.... Health care is an issue that concerns everyone. Health care costs are battering working families. Working America members tell us they’re worried that they might not be able to get the care they need if they or their family gets sick.

Working America members rallied in front of Senator Mitch McConnell's office in Louisville. On July 10, outside Sen. Mitch McConnell's office in Louisville, Ky., members of Working America told McConnell that enough is enough. We delivered thousands of "No Bandage Solution" petitions signed by more than 21,000 Working America members from Kentucky.

At the event, Rabecca Gainey, assistant director of Working America’s office in Kentucky, told reporters:

Our members are telling us that they’re concerned about rising health care costs. They’re worried that they might not be able to get the care they need if they or their family gets sick. And they tell us that it’s getting harder to pay for the basics—putting food on the table and gas in the tank—not to mention health care.

In only five weeks, more than 21,000 Kentucky Working America members signed the petition to demand real health care reform instead of bandage solutions.

We didn't stop with Minnesota and Kentucky. We've also delievered our petitions to Rep. Charlie Dent in Allentown, Pa., and Sen. Gordon Smith of Oregon. Check back later for more success stories and to see the amazing picutres from these events.
