Working America, community affiliate of the AFL-CIO, is the fastest growing progressive organization in the country. We are a two million-member-strong force for working people with 15 offices in nine states with more expansion on the way throughout 2008. By taking our message of economic justice and equality directly to neighborhoods throughout the country, we successfully mobilize our members around the most important issues of our day: health care, good jobs, retirement security, quality education, and more.
Our mobilization efforts have been major successes. In 2007 we collected nearly 12,000 handwritten letters supporting the State Children's Health Insurance Program when it was under attack by those who cared more about profits for big health care corporations than the struggles of working families. In New Jersey, our efforts led to passage of a Paid Family Leave bill through the legislature. Want to know more? Washington Post columnist David Broder summarizes some of our victories in a late 2007 Op-Ed.
This year will be like no other, and we're looking for leaders suited for such a historic time. Working America's success stems from our highly trained, professional canvass staff and leadership. We are currently seeking talented, motivated individuals that we can develop as Field Managers and Canvass Directors for placement in offices around the country. Field campaign work often involves travel, so we're looking for people flexible about location who are ready to work in key states across the country. Does this sound like you? Contact us today by filling out the form on this page!
Use your passion, experience, and knowledge to run a Working America field office while also gaining valuable experience and training with some of the country's leading organizers. Be part of the nation's fastest-growing organization for working people, and ensure victories this year on issues like health care, fair wages, and equality for all workers. Working America Canvass Directors work side-by-side with top labor and progressive leaders across the country to organize millions of everyday Americans to have a greater voice for working people.
As a Canvass Director, you will:
Guide a highly sophisticated plan of worker education and mobilization in your area around key legislative and issue-based campaigns, elections, and worker organizing.
Plan and test new methods of community mobilization and help shape organizational program and policy.
Recruit, train, develop, and manage a staff of 15-30 organizers and canvass leaders, and ensure the high-quality organizing that gives Working America the reputation of being one of the most sophisticated, professional canvass operations in the country.
Identify and mentor the next generation of progressive leaders and activists in your community.
Coordinate Working America's program with allies in the labor and progressive movement.
Organize press events, rallies, protests, and member activism events. Conduct press interviews, and speak at key labor and progressive events in your area.
