- John Cole is right on this one. News that some people will lose food stamps because they got $25 a week extra unemployment insurance is a good reminder of why we want the government to take its time on health care reform—make sure they’ve had time to minimize unintended consequences.
- At the HCAN blog, Jason Rosenbaum reminds us that when the American Medical Association opposes a public health insurance plan option, they’re not speaking for doctors.
- Former President Bill Clinton met with a number of progressive bloggers recently. Some of them have written about the experience, in particular the discussion on health care. See Think Progress and Lawyers, Guns, and Money for write-ups.
- Jane Hamsher reports that Senators Kay Hagan and Jeff Bingaman are responsible for holding up a public health insurance option in the Senate Health, Education, Labor & Pensions (HELP) Committee.

Hamsher later reported that Jude McCartin, Binagman’s Press Secretary, stated that Bingaman strongly supports a public option and even signed Sherrod Brown’s resolution calling for a “public insurance option”. Here is the link:

On a related subject, there is word that Baucus is promoting an $80 billion “deal” with the pharmaceutical industry on Medicare Part D. Since the only story that I could find on this is from AP, I won’t provide a link. Does anyone know anything about this?

Sometimes Health Care Insurance is not Health Care Insurance. For many years I paid for a health care plan for school children. Finally, when one of my children did get sick and had to have medical aid, the insurance company would not pay it. I had to pay $300.00 for the hospital waiting room (we had to wait about an hour to see the doctor and $300.00 for a 5 minute diagnose and a written prescription. My claim was ignored.
