Those aren't my teeth so what are they doing in my desk drawer?

JaNeen

I was working in a 'supposedly' very high-end gift shop in an exclusive neighborhood for a 'supposedly' friendly family business.

There were SO MANY bizarre incidents (on a daily basis) that I needed to constantly snap myself back into reality that I took to wearing a rubber band around my wrist!

On this particular lovely day, in the lovely shop, we were having our yearly sale for our biggest selling vendor with refreshments, flowers, the vendor rep - you name it. Over the previous months, I had worked very hard to clean up the shop, make it look professional and cutting-edge which included a MAJOR over-haul of what was supposed to be my private desk.

During the event, I went to the office to get something out of my desk drawer. When I opened the drawer, there staring at me were several sets of teeth (bridge-work) thrown in with my pens! I was so shocked - I slammed the drawer shut and caught my breath. I reopened the desk drawer - yep the teeth were still there and they weren't mine. They were my boss's teeth!!! And the most unbelievable thing is that she had a desk directly behind mine in the same office (it was a small, dirty cramped room with much junk, a couple of desks and a nasty kitchen area).

This was my introduction to the 'family' and their bizarre, disgusting and continually inappropriate behavior (e.g. using the restroom and leaving the door open, adjusting underwear or whatever on the sales floor, SCREAMING profanities at each other in front of customers and even the mother and daughter hitting each other - yea - customers run when that starts... and ultimately abusive behavior toward me.) Their response at my disgust, disdain and sticking up for myself: get over it! what's the big deal!

As could be expected from these low-lifes, my career ended while I was on vacation. I received a letter that my position had been eliminated. No phone call, no discussion, no class. No problem - a huge favor.

Thank you for letting me vent!
